Sam
Specialist Services Facilitator
Hi, my name is Sam!
I have a degree in Social Science (Human Services). I am a passionate, non-judgemental, supportive, animal loving person who can often be found at an op-shop, down at the beach or sitting on the floor cuddling with an animal. I am often brainstorming about some creative way to fix a problem or teach/learn a new skill. I love arts and crafts and have recently been repairing and repainting toys. I have just finished a children’s play kitchen for a toddler in my life which required quite a few DIY home renovation skills.
I have been working as a psycho-social support worker with participants who have various complex diagnoses and behaviours. I have extensive experience in supporting participants with complex needs. I am also very passionate about working with participants to build skills in emotional regulation, executive functioning and communication in ways that they identified would be helpful including using assistive technology.
My interests are very centred around neurodiversity and neurodivergence. I also spend a lot of time looking into life with chronic illnesses and how people experience life while being chronically ill and/or disabled. This makes me extremely passionate about people being treated with respect and dignity in all stages and areas of their lives.
